2020 Seasonal & Summer Camp Information
Breakaway Summer Camp is a four or five-day family retreat designed to provide relaxation, recreation and spiritual renewal for the disability family. Every day is capped with a family event such as a barn dance, luau or talent show. Each child, teen or adult camper with a disability is matched to a crewmember we call their buddy for the week. Our buddies and programming staff serve each family with individualized attention and lots of love. The strength of Breakaway Camp really takes place when families connect. Therefore, there are moments for peer-to-peer exchanges and disability life education that focus on renewing and creating a strong family bond. At its core, Breakaway Camp is an opportunity for the disability family to connect to a loving God. Come learn how putting down roots in a relationship with God and with each other can be the solid foundation you need to thrive in your life in a disability family. To give the disability family an over-the-top week at Breakaway Camp, Lift Disability Network recruits volunteers to serve as buddies, programming staff and camp leaders.
For me, one of those bouncers is my marriage to the most wonderful woman alive. In many ways, you yield some authority to the church. You can't provide that for her so your marriage will be defective from the outset. My husband was definitely worth the heartache and suffering that I endured but I am grateful that he was able to see that our family was worth a change in lifestyle.
